Hrefer - Word Lists, Additive Words, SIEVE Filter Explained.

I am pretty new to hrefer, and searched countlessly to figure out how to use it best, etc and I can tell you, the answers are out there except they are scattered everywhere. Bits and pieces on this forum, on that forum.

One of the questions I wanted to know is What is a sieve filter exactly, and what does it do...

Well here's a simple explanation of what words lists, additive words, and sieve filter do/are used for as per my tests.

-Word Lists (these are your niche related keywords)
-Additive words (these are the footprints, ie guestbook.cgi, or view-guestbook.php, or whatever)
-SIEVE filter (this is like a 'secondary screen' that will filter the results that hrefer finds after it runs your keyphrase + additive word (footprint) together to filter out stuff that isn't what you want.

Lets say, if you are looking for a guestbook.cgi, you might find a site that is hosting guestbook.cgi download - so you can get the script, you don't want this -- you want only guestbook.cgi's you can post to, so in your SIEVE filter you put in conditions (ie footprints that actual guestbooks you can post to HAVE), so when it finds guestbook.cgi it will compare it to this second ruleset to qualify it whether it is indeed a guestbook, or something else.

Hope that clears it up and makes it easier 2 understand

What i never understood is why people didn't just hardcode what they need in the additive words. It seems like they are using bad additive word files and then thus have to filter a second time.

Thank you very much, I was also wondering what exactly Sieve filter does. Now it's perfectly clear.

If I could only found some "newbie-friendly Xrumer tutorials", to explain the basics..

Not really bad additive words but if you see an example. The support forum of vbulletin is using vbulletin itself. But if you go and post spam thr then the effect will be worse. I guess its in that scenario sieve filter hopefully prevents it to be harvested.

Btw nice info you shared op. Propz

ArchAngel ,thank you very much for post . But i am not native english speaker, so i am still got confused.
i can understand word list and additive word list , for example , i want to do niche in shoes ,and make a shoes word list, and additive word is like footprints. Then hrefer would parsing with "shoes + additive words" to get the result.

But what the use of sieve-filter ?and how to work? i am not clear. if , say i got a list from "shoes + additive words" ,and using sieve-fileter which including this word "guestbook.cgi" ,then all the result contains "guestbook.cgi" in url would stay in the parsing list??? Or erased from the list?

if you enter "guestbook.cgi" in the sieve, it will save only the lines with guestbook.cgi. and wil remove all other scraped urls.
need to be careful in sieve, or else we wil be leaving lot of good scrapes.
