Google has silently changed its guidelines on Link building.

The before and after. Looks like they are avoiding telling people to build links as this is causing a lot of spamming and now they only advise us to make high-quality sites.

What do you think of it?

They never said links dont work anymore, they just said build good sites so they can hopefully lower in a way the link building orgy that is going on out there due to a bunch of cheap tools hitting the internet in the last months.

Obviously they noticed that more and more people are using linkbuilding as the only means of ranking and that screws up their search results and their income (remember? they sell ranking disguised as "ads")

Therefore, why tell people to build links, when they abuse that to the maximum? Its much safer to go back and tell people to build content, hopefully in the process making people think links dont work.

OK, seriously folks, Storm is 100% right - don't listen to Google, they are not trying to do you any favors.

What would happen if Google said, "Spammy links work just fine and content doesn't matter much either"?

Google relies on webmasters overestimating the extent of their reach. There is only so much processing power to analyse every one of billions of websites - much easier to slap us occasionally with an algo change and combine that with Matt Cutts smoke and mirrors.

google is trying to make a fool of the people, so dont believe all they say , what will work requires a little time and patience.
use the process of trial and error, you can find what is working and what is not.
